Joseph Part One

About The Book

No man since Jesus Christ has generated more religious interest than Joseph Smith – the founder of Christ’s restored New Testament Church, who claimed he was called of God and ordained by divine messengers, including Peter, James and John, as directed by Jesus Christ.

On its face, this is astonishing information!  If God did give revelation, that means there is a God, and his message is vital for this world.

Consequently, it is incumbent upon every person on this earth – bar none – to know that message and be responsible for its application.    Christ did say:  “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:  And I give unto them eternal life.”   John 10:27-28.

There was a message, and it was prophesied in Isaiah 29, beginning with verse 12: “And the book is delivered to him that is not learned, saying, Read this, I pray thee: and he saith, I am not learned.

Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men: Therefore, I will proceed to do a marvellous work among this people.”

“And in that day shall the deaf hear the words of the book, and the eyes of the blind shall see out of darkness.  The meek shall increase their joy in the Lord, and they shall come to understanding, and they shall learn doctrine.”

The fulfillment of this scripture is that In 1820 near Palmyra, in upper state New York, a lad of 14 named Joseph Smith wanted to know which of all the congregations he should join from among the many churches and their ministers, who vied for converts in that region.

“And in that day shall the deaf hear the words of the book, and the eyes of the blind shall see out of darkness.  The meek shall increase their joy in the Lord, and they shall come to understanding, and they shall learn doctrine.”

Joseph went to the woods to ask in prayer, as to which religion he should join.  There he received a vision from God and his Son, Jesus Christ, who told him that none of the churches were true, because they only taught the doctrines and commandments of men.

Joseph was also told that other heavenly messengers would assist him to restore God’s New Testament gospel.   Also prophesied as quoted above, is that a particular book would come forth.

However, the receiver would not be ‘learned’, yet the ‘deaf shall hear’ and the ‘the eyes of the blind shall see out of darkness’ due to the divine ‘doctrine’ of that book.

Today that book is known as The Book of Mormon, after the great military general and prophet who compiled it circa 400 AD, in the land which is now known as North America.   That book was first published in English in 1829 and has since been translated into 97 languages.   Today, 200 years later, Christ’s restored New Testament Church has over 16 million global members.

The invitation is to read ‘Joseph Part I’ for additional information as to this historic topic.  Enjoy!

Introduction

This book tells the little-known day-to-day story of Joseph Smith, Jr. On April 6, 183o, six men became the first official members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, aka the LDS or Mormon Church. Of these six men, three were brothers named Joseph, Jr., Hyrum and Samuel Smith. These three men are first cousins only three times removed from the author, which did stir the author to write and to provide further detail, as to the events that defined these three men and many countless others. This is my report. The author’s additional experience includes being happily married for nearly 5o years; being the father of six children and numerous grandchildren; serving in several past and present leadership callings within the LDS Church, including being a branch president twice, while on a mission to Argentina; then completing a full tour of duty as an Infantry field grade officer (1st Lieutenant Platoon Leader) in the jungle of Vietnam; being in a bishopric and having a real estate career. Let us assume that these key events in the life of Joseph Smith did happen, which include the following: (1) God and Jesus Christ appeared personally to him, as two separate and exalted individuals, and told him that none of the other existing churches on all the earth were true. And, that if he remained worthy, other heavenly messengers would be sent to him, such as John the Baptist, and three of the original New Testament Apostles, namely Peter, James and John, to ordain Joseph to restore God’s true church upon the earth once again. (2) The first messenger was an angel named
Moroni, who delivered to Joseph a separate set of additional scripture, the Book of Mormon, written between 600 BC and 421 AD and is in addition to the Bible. God wanted the world to have this book due to its saving value for all who will believe and act upon it. (3) The next messenger was the resurrected John the Baptist, who baptized Christ in the River Jordan. John restored the lost Aaronic Priesthood, so that valid baptisms, for the true remission of sin, could again occur on this earth. (4) Peter, James and John, Christ’s senior New Testament apostles, restored the higher Apostolic Priesthood to Joseph, so that Christ’s Church in its fullness could be correctly organized upon this earth again. The bold take-away is that no other church on earth was true, or God would have told Joseph to join one of these other existing churches. Think of all the Catholic, Protestant, Evangelical, Eastern and Middle Eastern

15 Behold, I am Jesus Christ, the Son of God.  I created the heavens and the earth, and all things that in them are.  I was with the Father in the beginning, and in me hath the Father glorified His name.

16 I came unto my own, and my own received me not.  And the scriptures concerning my coming are fulfilled.

17 And as many as have received me, to them have i given to become the sons of God, and even so will I do to as many as shall believe on my name, for behold, by me redemption cometh, and in me the law of Moses is fulfilled.

About the author.

I tell everyone I was born in Chicago, even though my time there was very short-lived.  Snowflake, AZ is where my heritage resides and my future really began.  My elegant mother and rough-edged father lovingly tolerated myself and four younger brothers.  It didn’t always go as planned.  I married Debra and we were blessed with six children of our own.  Now they are all grown.  As their father, I am very proud of each of them.

I was born a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  Each life experience as re-emphasized  my gratitude for the guidance it provides.  I served a 2-year mission in Argentina.  Just as I found my sweetheart, I was wrapped into the Vietnam War.  As a 1st Lieutenant, serving on the front lines, I had a chance to question what was most important to me.  I worked in real estate for many years before feeling a push to write.

“Love thy neighbor” was not a mere suggestion, but a commandment.  I can certainly relate with those who seem to be out of luck.  I am proud to say I have tried to do what I can to improve our legal system, both on a state and federal level.  Prison reform, judicial oversight, corruption protection and narcotics rehabilitation are areas I feel can be improved greatly.  A deeper understand of our laws has been a life’s work for me.

Upcoming book!

This small work is only 50 pages long and is strictly an introduction to the larger platform of religious books by author George M. Papa.   More like a pamphlet than a book, this work is chalked with current information regarding the aftermath of the restoration, which began in 1820.   More precisely, this book is a series of essays and commentary on a number of topics that the author feels would be of interest to a newcomer to religion.
